Wherever we look these days, relationships seem to be in shambles. Broken vows seem to be caused by a variety of factors, including failed marriages, episodes of adultery, and short-term romances that attract attention. Although you and I may frown at the mention of the word "infidelity," we both know that it is deeply ingrained in our systems. And let's face it, we all enjoy a good movie about cheating spouses and dishonest husbands. So with that out of the way, here is a list of best treacherous wife movies that you would love to watch over this weekend.
10. Unfaithful (2002)
The first thing that comes to your mind after hearing the category name is unfaithful and there's one movie with that exact name released in the year 2002. To the description of director Adrian Lyne, this movie portrays a fatal attraction. It is more of a erotic thriller about the body language of guilt.
The story revolves around Edward who innocently learns that his wife Connie has lied to him about an affair. Suspicion propels him to uncover the devastating details of her infidelity. Tormented by the knowledge, he confronts her lover only to discover a level of rage within himself that he could never have imagined.
This movie earned $119 million worldwide and was considered a box office hit for the year.
9. Weaker Park (2004)
Weaker Park was released in the year 2004. The main characters of the movie are Matt Simon and Lisa who were portrayed to be madly in love with each other. But one day Lisa vanishes. Simon enters an emotional tailspin and begins an obsessive quest to find her years later. Simon's life is stabilized and he is in a new relationship. Then he thinks he sees Lisa in a restaurant and fixates on her all over again. He snoops around and eventually tracks down the mysterious woman from the restaurant. Her name is Alex but she acts just like Lisa.
This was not a box office hit. However the story and the acting skills of the entire cast made it a must watch.
8. A Perfect Murder (1998)
This movie will make you sit straight up in your seat. It is the perfect blend of thriller and crime.
The league character of the story named Wall Street baron Steven Taylor discovers that his pretty young wife Emily is cheating on him. But what concerns him more than her infidelity is the hope of profiting from her untimely death. Emily has millions and Steve's own financial empire is collapsing before his eyes. He hires her lover David to murder her. The plan to stage breaking that will look like a random murder turns out to be far from perfect.
This was a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 film Dial M for Murder though the characters names are all changed and over half the plot is completely rewritten and altered.
7. Original Sin (2001)
Original Sin was released in the year 2001. The plot is set in the late 19th century Cuba during the Spanish rule and flashes back and forth to the scene of a woman waiting her execution by garrote while telling her story to a priest to the actual events of that story.
The main story revolves around the characters Luis and Julia who were bound together first by matrimony and then by fierce love and desire. But the closer Luis became to Julia, the more enigmatic she seems to be. For Luis, The loneliness which led to love becomes a passion which transcends reason and defies convention as he and Julia engage in a dangerous dance that takes them across the landscapes of Cuba into obsession, eroticism and perhaps even murder.
6. Birth (2004)
This film bears a strange story where a young boy attempts to convince a woman that he is her dead husband reborn.
The story starts with character Anna who apparently took 10 years to recover from the death of her husband Sean. But now she's on the verge of marrying her boyfriend Joseph and finally moving on. However, on the night of her engagement party a young boy named Sean turns up saying he is her dead husband reincarnated. At first, she ignores the child. But his knowledge of her former husband's life is uncanny leading her to believe that he might be telling the truth.
5. Sleeping With The Enemy (1991)
We have an interesting story where a woman named Laura fakes her death in order to escape from her marriage. After faking her death in order to flee from her violent husband Martin, Laura Burney leaves Cape Cod and moves to Iowa where she adopts a new identity and starts dating a local teacher Ben Woodward.
Martin, meanwhile, unearths evidence suggesting that she isn't dead and when her mother confirms this, he tracks her to Iowa. He finds Laura and Ben and confronts them forcing her to fight for her life once again.
This majorly falls in the category of romantic psychological thriller. This film was a box office success grossing $175 million on the production budget of $19 million. The film also broke the record at the time for the highest domestic opening for a female-centric film grossing $13 million on its opening weekend surpassing the previous record held by Alien which grossed $10 million dollars in its first weekend.
4. The Ledge (2011)
The fourth must-watch movie on our list is The Ledge released in 2011. The plot is based on a police officer who looks to talk down a young man lured by his lover's husband to the ledge of a high rise where he has one hour to contemplate a fateful decision. After an atheistic neighbor has an affair with his wife, a vengeful fundamentalist forces the man to choose between killing himself or allowing someone else to die in his place.
This American thriller drama was successful in sticking its audience to the screen.
3. Deception (2008)
The film started with the introduction of an accountant to a mysterious sex club known as The List by his lawyer friend. But in this new world, he soon becomes the prime suspect in a woman's disappearance in a multi-million dollar heist.
The plot of the movie was based on the story of a corporate auditor who works in a number of different offices. Jonathan McQuarry wanders without an anchor among New York's power brokers. A chance meeting with a charismatic lawyer Wyatt Bose leads to Jonathan's introduction to The List. Jonathan begins an affair with a woman who introduces Jonathan to a world of treachery and murder.
2. Birthday Girl (2001)
The plot focuses on English bank clerk John Buckingham who orders a Russian mail order bride Nadia. It becomes clear upon her arrival that Nadia cannot speak English and early into her stay two mysterious men come to the house claiming to be her cousin and her cousin's friend.
The league character John is a mild-mannered banker who has never been lucky in love. Fed up with waiting for the right girl to come along, John takes a chance on the Russian mail order bride arranged via the internet. His internet love connection is the enigmatic Nadia.
When Nadia's Russian cousins Yuri and Alexi turn up unexpectedly to celebrate her birthday, John's life is turned upside down as he learns the truth behind their relationship and is taken on an adventure.
The film grossed over $16 million .

When his manager Mr. Sheldrake begins using Baxter's apartment in exchange for promotion, Baxter is disappointed to learn that Sheldrake's mistress is Fran Kubelik, the elevator girl at work, whom Baxter is interested in himself. Soon Baxter must decide between the girl he loves and the advancement of his career.
The apartment has come to be regarded as one of the greatest films ever made appearing in the list by American Film Institute and Sight and Sound Magazine in 1994. It was one of the 25 films selected for inclusion to the United States Library of Congress National Film Registry.
